In DNV Energy News you can now learn how to manage the most challenging risks, and even capitalise on them in turbulent times.

Whether you are steaming down a river in your kayak heading for a torrential waterfall or leading an energy company through a turbulent period of threats and opportunities, there is an analogical resemblance. Everything depends on your equipment, experience and knowledge of the landscape – and, in the end, on your appetite for risk.
“This is what we have focused on in the new issue of DNV Energy News,” says Communications Manager Svein Inge Leirgulen.

In the UK, Venture Production talks about how they are implementing an enterprise risk management system in order to handle their risk appetite.
Through a survey of how the players on the UK continental shelf manage risk, DNV wanted to look at how they are dealing with risks at an enterprise level during the current turbulent period. A similar survey has also been carried out among the European power companies.
Both Stena Drilling and Agip KCO explain how they are dealing with risks in extreme areas; in the Arctic’s icy conditions and in Kashagan, with its harsh climate and huge oil field. How can delays be prevented during the commissioning phase? This is discussed by DNV’s Carl Arne Carlsen and Annie Combelles.
Finally, DNV Energy’s technical director Kim Mørk presents all the challenges involved in, and what is being done to facilitate, the process of extending the life of platforms and pipelines.
That which can be learnt from all these articles is that what matters is knowing your risks and manoeuvring through them to create benefits rather than unpredictable threats.
